Rake calculation methods and
rakeback
As you probably know, the winner does not pay all the rake resulting in a
hand. Rather, the expense is distributed among those who actively contribute
to the pot. How exactly do you have your individual rake contribution
determined though? The method that the poker room uses to set your rake
contribution is extremely important because it will basically determine how
much
rakeback you’re entitled to.
Take the full tilt rakeback for instance. The
rakeback full tilt poker offers is
dependant on the individual rake contributions which are calculated through
the dealt method. Each player who is dealt into a hand has rake contribution
allotted, which means he earns rake back whether or not he commits money to
the pot. The resulting rake is always divided equally among those who are
dealt in. This may be great for some tight passive players, but under this
arrangement, loose aggressive maniacs will end up generating rakeback money
for others.
Another way to determine rake contribution is through the contributed
method. This one is fairer than the dealt method, because it only allots
rake contribution (and thus rakeback money) to those who actually put money
into the pot. The problem is though that the resulting rake is still divided
equally among contributors, which means that the player who called a BB and
then folded will gain the same amount of credit as the guy who called or
raised all the way and lost the pot. The amount of the contribution is still
not reflected in this method and that means loose aggressive players can
still e exploited by the tight passive guys.
The weighted contributed rake calculation method is the most accurate. It
doesn’t just limit rake contribution to those who actually risk their money,
it keeps track of how much money one puts into the pot and allots rake
contribution in direct proportion with that.
If your money makes up 33% of the resulting pot, your rake contribution will
also be 33% of the total resulting rake. This way, tight aggressive players
can no longer exploit any loop-holes. If you do not put money into the pot,
you do not get rakeback.
Make sure you know which rake calculation method your poker room uses before
you sign up. Your rakeback is greatly dependant on this apparently
insignificant detail.
In the case of a
poker prop deal, the rake contribution
method has an even bigger impact.
